Reviews

The first DVD Core Stability 1 Base Work & Bridging focuses on providing versatile exercises to enhance training of the core in three dimensions(3-D) and multiple planes of movement. It delivers a variety of exercises in lying, supine, prone, quadruped and seated bridge positions. The authors show expert utilization of balance equipment, elastic resistance, and ‘Physio balls’.

The second DVD Core Stability 2-Lower Core & Leg Training shows how to improve 3D core debility by connecting the lower core and legs with functional exercises that work the muscle slings in closed and partially closed, kinetic chain movements. The extended hip position for squatting, as well as optimal recruitment, balance, timing and deceleration control are also emphasized.

The third DVD Core Stability 3 Upper Core & Arm Training, is of particular importance for tennis players given the high demands that their strokes place on the dominant upper limb. The authors present multiple exercises for scapular stabilization, and deceleration of posterior shoulder muscles using practical and portable equipment.

All the DVDs have an introductory warm up and finish with a cool down section. They also include information that the authors have edited from a video on agility, balance and coordination drills. In my opinion, these DVDs are of great value to doctor’s, therapists and coaches in their efforts to optimize athletic function, and reduce injury in tennis players.

Base Work and Bridging features more basic core drills in common positions we teach our clients such as bridging, four-point, prone, supine, sitting and side lying. It will, however, give you many more ideas to work with even for the seasoned Therapist. The producers use equipment such as foam rolls, wobble boards, balls, and bands in combinations you will not have thought of to make these exercises challenging for your clients. All the DVDs include warm-up ideas, balance exercises, and stretches using the ball.

Lower Core and Leg Training features challenging, lower kinetic chain exercises, including the essential core muscles. Exercises include squats, lunges, standing drills, step ups and running drills. Again, the producers have given us many innovative combinations, using balls, bands, steps, body weight and drills around the court, to challenge our clients. One ideal population of clients this DVD would work magic with his people suffering from pelvic instability.

Upper Core and Arm Training features challenging, upper kinetic chain exercises involving the core muscles. Positions include sitting on a ball, kneeling on a ball, four-point, squatting lunging and supine. Again, equipment is used to challenge the client such as, bands and medicine balls.  One ideal population of clients this DVD would work magic on is a shoulder instability client.
